I ran easy runs with tempo paces worked in as well as sets of 20-second sprints. The faster I ran, the worse they performed. I think they were just fine at the easy pace, but they definitely dont make my feet happy running in them and I didnt have a good time. The clunkiness and lack of energy return make it so that the faster you go, the worse they feel.

Nike Winflo 8 First Impressions

Looking at them, the first impression is a positive one. I like how they look and they take on an edgy modern vibe. I got the Dark Beetroot/Black/Ashen Slate/Dark Pony color. These particular colors compliment one another.
The design of the sole unit stuck out to me in the first place. It uses the Pegasus-like pointed heel structure. This gives the shoe an edgy modern look to them.

When I first put them on I thought I might need a different size. It felt narrow through the toe box. Once I walked around in them for a few minutes they loosened up and had a nicer fit. The previous model offered a wide option when purchasing. That is no longer the case with the updated Winflo 8.
My first run in them was an easy 5 miler. I had no major issues other than feeling a little tighter around the toe area than Im used to. The whole run felt just ok. There was nothing spectacular that stood out about these shoes but they also did what they were built to do. Get me from point A to point B.
Plodding Stiff Ride In The Winflo 8
The runs and overall feel of the ride were pretty miserable. A very dull, unenergetic ride that dragged on and on. For a guy 10+ weeks into marathon training, I have some serious marathon legs and these shoes sure didnt help alleviate any of that dead feeling. I felt slowed down and like I was working harder than usual to maintain my easy pace.
Walking was uncomfortable compared to any other running shoes and they really performed poorly during sprinting due to the heel slip and lack of energy return. There was no roll feel to the shoe, so if youre a heel striker like me then these shoes emphasize that because theyre so dull.

The Nike Winflo 8 is a hard shoe to rate. I didnt love it and I didnt hate it. For a daily trainer, the price is hard to beat.
Typical daily trainers will cost you around $130. That being said, I guess you get what you pay for. I would by no means call this a running shoe. It is a comfortable shoe you can wear to do a few weekly miles without any issue. I do love how this shoe looks and have received many compliments. Its comfortable enough to wear for your workout and keep it on for your other daily duties.

Nike Winflo 8 Upper Unit

The upper is one of my favorite parts of the shoe. Looking at it firsthand gives you a wow factor. Youll feel stylish putting them on. Its made out of mesh. The mesh is a double-layer translucent upper. The top layer of the upper is the thinner translucent one. While the bottom half of the mesh is the exact same upper as the Winflo 7.

Its just hidden under the translucent top layer. Overall, the upper is comfortable and very breathable. Around the midfoot, on either side of the shoe are Flywire Cables. They are there to provide a tight but flexible fit. Some people might say they are useless but they provide significant support without adding extra weight.
One thing I didnt care for while wearing these shoes was that when I wore them in hotter conditions, I would get condensation in the Nike swoosh. This was caused by the double-layer mesh. I have to say that the mesh was comfortable overall and I didnt have any complaints. I would like to see the next Winflo version with a more luxury mesh like the Pegasus.
The laces are standard and held in place by the Flywire system. Ive read that some people had a hard time keeping the laces tight enough but I didnt come to that conclusion. When lacing up I do notice that its a lot stiffer than other shoes Im used to. When looking at the heel counter you will see that its pretty built up and offers a good amount of support. I had no difficulties with any heel slipping.

Not A Comfortable Running/walking Shoe
l, walked or jogged around for a bit, and thought WOW! I love these. Wellthe opposite happened. Probably the most unremarkable shoes Ive ever worn. I didnt feel much cushion, there was no bounce or energy return when my feet hit the ground and were pretty firm/stiff.
Running felt like a chore. The shoes felt even worse with more high-intensity exercises like sprinting, sled pushing, and plyometric exercises like box jumps.
Great Breathability With The Mesh Upper
The upper is great! Thats one thing Nike does very well from the Pegasus to the Invincible to the legendary Vaporfly. The Winflo 8 upper is comfortable, breathable, and the mesh feels great. My runs were in 50-degree and 70-degree sunny weather, so I dont have any Texas summer runs to really put it to the test yet.

Comfortable But Not A Wow Fit
I loved putting on the shoes for the first time. The Winflo 8 has that sock-like insert where your foot slips right in and it feels great. I had some issues with the length of the laces and a 13 was a bit loose as I had heel slip when I ran, which is the first time a size 13 hasnt fit me.
I also felt a bump on the medial aspect of the middle of the shoe, which was uncomfortable to feel when I walked and ran. It has a comfortable upper and doesnt feel tight on the foot at all.
Nike Winflo 8 Sole Unit

The sole unit in the Winflo 8 sports Nikes Zoom Air. This extends from the toe to the heel of the shoe. Its placed in the forefoot and puts cushioning where its desired. Cushlon foam is the foam that is used.
Youll notice its soft and somewhat responsive. Nike claims that this foam gives the shoe some springiness to your step and I cant say Id agree with that. Dont get me wrong, its a comfortable shoe to wear around town but not a shoe I would pick to go run miles and miles in.
Each step I took was firm and lacked any energy return. When I took them out for longer runs I felt like I was working harder. Keeping my runs shorter while in these shoes made me enjoy them more. The rubber sole was excellent on various surfaces. I took them out in all kinds of weather and places. I had zero issues with traction.

The Price Is Pretty Good
Most reliable daily trainers run about $130 unless you buy older versions, so the $90 price is pretty good. The design is beautiful and the white with the pink really pops. The neon green Nike check on the medial side of the shoe adds that extra swagger that makes it a Nike shoe. I will say, I wore them to my gym for a workout and multiple people complimented my shoes, which has never happened before!
