Rogaine For Women Review
Womens Rogaine products are specifically made for the fairer sex. The brand cautions women against using the other versions due to the higher concentration of ingredients. However, the same ingredients and concentrations are displayed in both men and women package leaflets.
According to the American Academy of Dermatology, minoxidil is effective, safe, and usually well tolerated. However, if you are pregnant, planning to be pregnant or breastfeeding, you should not use this product.
This Rogaine review will feature the brands highest-selling womens products below in regular and unscented versions, available in 1, 2, 3, and 6-month quantities.
It Sounded Like A Miracle Drug So I Hung Around The Aisle Where It Was Kept Under Lock And Key At My Local Drugstore Its Blue
I was restless and wanted to know what else the world had to offer, so I enrolled in a six-week writing course at a university that summer. The professor was a man with a distinguished balding pate who I imagined would spot my potential and usher me into the world of poetry readings and magazine offices. After class, as other students filed out with their assignments and Xeroxed short stories, I approached his desk and tried to show him pages of the novel I was working on. By the second week of the program, determined to outshine my peers, I was meeting him at the park and in empty classrooms, where we talked and kissed. Once, we shared a lunch that his wife had packed him.
In hindsight, what I believed was mentorship was actually sexual misconduct. I could sense it at the time, but I was more concerned about clawing back the agency my hair loss had taken away. As soon as I got the gumption to use my youthful privileges however illusory they were stripped from me. Of course, there were right and wrong ways to be precocious: a young writer mature enough to handle a relationship with an older man? Yes. Sporting the pencil-thin ponytail of a middle-aged woman? No.

A Popular Hair Loss Drug Costs 40% More For Women Than Men
Dr. Jules Lipoff was browsing the pharmacy shelves of his local Target when he stumbled across an interesting finding: Ounce for ounce, the womens version of Rogaine foaman over-the-counter treatment for hair losscost significantly more than the mens.
Mens and womens Rogaine are marketed differently but contain the same ingredients. I thought, maybe this is just a fluke, says Lipoff, assistant professor of dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. But I went to a couple different stores and saw it was pretty consistent.
Lipoff and his colleagues then compared prices for Rogaine and its generic version, minoxidil, at 21 pharmacies in four states. Their findings, published in JAMA Dermatology, show that the drug is routinely priced higher when marketed for women. Although they only looked at a specific selection of products, the authors say their paper may reflect the larger issue of gender-based pricing for many types of health care.
The researchers included Target in their analysis, along with five of the countrys other largest chain pharmacies: CVS, Kroger, Rite Aid, Walgreens and Walmart. From July to November 2016, they recorded the prices, sizes and ingredients of 41 unique minoxidil products at stores in Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio and Indiana.

Womens Rogaine Review: Before And After

My mom has very thin, fine hair, so I always knew there was a strong chance Id experience thinning and hair loss as well. But I didnt expect it to happen so early. I first noticed hair thinning at 24 which was, and remains, very upsetting and frustrating.
If youre here you probably already know how it is. I was honestly a little nervous to start out on Rogaine and tried more natural remedies at first, but they didnt work for me. I finally decided to try it out, and Im so glad that I did.
They say that the earlier you start the more effective Rogaine will be. I actually saw baby hairs start to grow after just one month of use! When I finished my two month supply, I knew I had found my lifesaver! Now, after about 8 months of daily use, I can part my hair any which way I please, and those baby hairs have gotten thicker and long enough to blend into the rest of my hair.
A huge moment for me was being able to put my hair up into a ponytail without being nervous about gaps in my hairline at the temples. I have seen really amazing progress and could not be happier with my results. The formula itself is lightweight and dries down like water, so it doesnt make your hair feel greasy or dirty. Using the once a day foam, I was able to slip this into my nighttime routine so easily and conveniently.

Can Rogaine Make Hair Loss Worse
For some, Rogaine has caused hair loss that was said to be more than just the shedding process. As described in an article review, hair loss can increase in rare cases because it synchronizes the hair cycle. Some customers wrote about losing patches and clumps of hair that did not return while using the product. With that being said, this is not common.
How Does Rogaine For Women Work
The active ingredient in Womenâs Rogaine causes a number of biological changes to the body which inhibit hair loss and increase hair growth.
According to an extensive medical review of minoxidil published in the Journal of Dermatological Treatment, topical minoxidil is both a vasodilator and an anti-inflammatory agent. Since pattern baldness is aggravated by local inflammation, this may halt or even reverse the process. Vasodilation refers to blood vessels widening, which may allow more nutrients to reach the hair follicles.
The study authors also note that minoxidil may be an âantiandrogen.â This means that the compound blocks androgenic activity locally, which can halt hair loss. In both male and female pattern baldness, androgens either cause or exacerbate hair loss.
Minoxidil also increases the duration of the anagen phase, which is the phase of the hair cycle where new hair follicles grow.
All of these biological changes seem to have a synergistic effect which is demonstrated in the research proving how effective minoxidil is at increasing hair growth.
Researchers havenât yet determined exactly how or why the same ingredient is so effective in women, because female pattern hair loss isnât considered as hormonally-driven as male pattern hair loss, so we hope that more research on minoxidil for female pattern hair loss emerges in the future to specifically determine mechanisms of action.

Rogaine For Women Side Effects
The side effects of the active ingredient in Rogaine for Women are well documented. A review of the side effects is published by StatPearls, one of the largest free medical databases maintained by the U.S. government.
One of the most important side effects to note is that minoxidil may cause fetal malformation, even when applied topically, so pregnant women should likely avoid all Rogaine products.
The remaining side effects are relatively minor: redness, irritation and excessive hair growth. The final side effect is noted because this excessive hair growth may occur in places other than the scalp. Many women would prefer not to have hair growth in other areas of their face, so this side effect should be discussed with a doctor prior to Rogaine use.

When I washed my hair in spring 2011, it came out in fistfuls. At first, I was in denial. School was stressful, I thought my hair would grow back when the semester ended. But months passed. I noticed other girls hair in the bathroom mirror, how their scalps didnt show through it like a gleaming moon.
Most women dont begin to bald until 40 I was only a high school junior. My friends had other, more age-appropriate worries, and when I told them about my problem, they accused me of exaggerating. I figured my doctor would dismiss my dissatisfaction as purely cosmetic, so I never mentioned it to him. Instead, an over-the-counter solution presented itself Rogaine. I first learned about it from a line in an Ingrid Michaelson song, The Way I Am: Id buy you Rogaine/when you start losing all your hair,/sew on patches/to all you tear. It sounded like a miracle drug, so I hung around the aisle where it was kept under lock and key at my local drugstore. Its blue-and-purple box shimmered with hope.

Theres only one active ingredient in this product, and that is minoxidil.
*All individuals are unique. Your results can and will vary.
An article in Drug Design, Development and Therapy, said that it, was first introduced as an antihypertensive medication and the discovery of its common adverse event, hypertrichosis, led to the development of a topical formulation for promoting hair growth.
A secondary benefit of this substance is that it can have an impact on the hair follicles and on hair growth in general.
It can lengthen the active growth period of your hair. It can also increase the size of the hair follicles and thicken the hair.
A study published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology compared 2% with 5% minoxidil, and they concluded that the 5% topical minoxidil was superior to 2% topical minoxidil and placebo in increasing hair regrowth.

Maternal Review You Know These Exhausted Women In Your Bones

This wonderful drama about doctors going back to work after having children is a spot-on exploration of female friendship and how to survive in a system stacked against you
You wanted to be a mother, Catherine MacDiarmids mother tells her. It demands sacrifices. New ITV1 drama Maternal interrogates how true this is and how true it should be two very different questions as it follows the return to frontline NHS work of three female doctors after their maternity leaves end.
MacDiarmids baby was the result of a-few-nights stands with fellow surgeon Lars, who was over from Scandinavia and returned to his wife without knowing about the pregnancy. MacDiarmid, an ambitious professional rapidly finds out how much her time away has cost her. She is behind on surgical hours, of course, but not allowed to scrub in until she has completed the re-introductory course given by a bored lecturer, who knows that this is just one of many box-ticking exercises with which the path to efficiency is stupidly littered. MacDiarmid has lost standing in the male-dominated world of surgery and is straight out of the traps trying to build it back up.

Who Gets The Best Results From Rogaine
Rogaine is applied to the scalp to help grow hair and prevent hair loss caused by male or female pattern baldness. This is the most common type of hair loss, and it runs in families.
Rogaine works best in people with hereditary hair loss at the vertex of the scalp or for women with general thinning of hair on the top of the scalp. However, a 2014 study also showed that it may work for the front of the scalp as well in men.
Rogaine is most effective for people who start using it at the first indications of hair loss. It isnt likely to help people whove already gone completely bald.
Womens Rogaine Review The Bottom Line
Womens Rogaine has the backing of years of a solid reputation from the manufacturer. Is it effective? Simply put, it is. But there is a catch. This topical solution must be used continuously. Stopping the use of this product may result in the issue of hair loss, returning. There are other hair loss treatment supplements that not only treat symptoms of hair loss but also improve scalp health. Rogaine may be effective but it will need constant use in order to stave hair loss away and it could work out quite expensive.
